Tia  Fellner - 2024

Tia has always dreamed of becoming a teacher—sound familiar?

As a young girl, she would play school, teaching her class of imaginary students. That passion never faded.

Throughout her life, Tia has been deeply involved in her community. She has volunteered with her church, the Weyburn Comprehensive Choir, Rise Choir, the Humane Society, and as a soccer coach. She also worked at the Spark Centre as both a cashier and a programmer. A dedicated student, she has consistently made the Honour Roll and has pursued extra training to develop her leadership skills.

Tia’s references speak highly of her many admirable qualities. She is enthusiastic, eager to learn, and always willing to help others. She fosters a positive and inclusive environment, striving for excellence in all she does.

In her own words, Tia shares her vision for teaching:
"I want to become the best teacher I can—not just for myself, but for my students. I understand the influence a teacher has on their students, and I want mine to be a positive one that stays with them throughout their lives. I want to be the reason a student smiles, the reason they work to pursue their dreams, the reason they succeed."

Tia is currently attending the University of Regina in the Bachelor of Education (Elementary) program. We are confident that she will make a wonderful teacher, inspiring and shaping young minds for years to come.

On behalf of the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan, Weyburn Chapter, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for her bright future.

Congratulations, Tia!

Carys Moffatt - 2024

Carys Moffatt knew she was meant to work with children early on. With a natural gift for teaching and a passion for inclusivity, she has dedicated herself to making a difference in young lives.

A proud graduate of Weyburn Comprehensive School (Class of 2024) with a stellar 92% average, Carys balanced academics with a rich tapestry of extracurricular activities. She was deeply involved in jazz band and musical theatre from Grades 8 to 12, pursued competitive dance, and even studied at the renowned Broadway Dance Centre in New York.

Her commitment to community service and child advocacy became evident early on. She:

  • Worked with special needs teens at the library under Inclusion Weyburn.

  • Served as a receptionist at the Weyburn Leisure Centre.

  • Designed and led programs as a summer camp programmer at the Leisure Centre (2023 & 2024).

  • Coached cheerleading at Airborne Cheer Athletics for four years, mentoring children ages 3 to 12.

However, it was her experience at Fun in the Sun (FITS), an inclusive summer camp, that truly solidified her career path. While working closely with neurodivergent children, Carys became a fierce advocate for ensuring all campers—regardless of ability—received equal opportunities for joy, learning, and belonging. This passion led her to adjust her Grade 12 course load to include Career and Work Experience, allowing her to work directly with special needs teens in her school’s Functionally Integrated Program (FIP) and volunteer on weekends with Inclusion Weyburn.

Now pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Pre-K to Grade 5 at the University of Regina, Carys is dedicated to fostering inclusive learning environments where all children can thrive.

Congratulations, Carys, on this exciting journey—you’re already shaping a brighter future for education!
